Live racing canceled Saturday and Sunday at Belmont Park

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced that Saturday and Sunday's live racing programs at Belmont Park have been canceled due to a powerful nor’easter forecast to bring extremely high winds and heavy rain to Long Island beginning tonight and continuing throughout the weekend.

The National Weather Service has placed Long Island under a wind advisory for Saturday and Sunday with current forecasts calling for sustained high winds and gusts exceeding 50 mph. 

Belmont Park will be closed to the public this weekend, September 26-27. 

• Tickets and pre-paid parking purchased directly through Ticketmaster, FEVO or the NYRA Sales Team (844-NYRA-TIX) are eligible for a refund or ticket credit.
• Tickets purchased through third-party vendors are not eligible for refunds from NYRA. Guests must contact the original vendor directly.

All ticketholders will be contacted by the NYRA Sales Team via email with additional information on refunds or exchanges.

NYRA has received approval from the New York State Gaming Commission to conduct live racing on Wednesday, September 30 and Wednesday, October 7. In conjunction with previously announced make-up days, NYRA will now conduct Wednesday – Sunday racing throughout October.

The six graded stakes scheduled for Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, will be brought back on Thursday, October 1.

The six graded stakes include the Grade 1, $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, Grade 2, $500,000 Flower Bowl [WAYI BC Filly and Mare Turf], Grade 3, $250,000 Vosburgh [WAYI BC Sprint], Grade 2, $250,000 Gallant Bloom, Grade 3, $200,000 Belmont Turf Sprint and Grade 3, $200,000 Winter Memories.

The added card for Wednesday, September 30 will offer overnight races originally scheduled for September 26-27.

Entries for both Wednesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 1 will be taken today.

Additionally, the $175,000 Joseph A. Gimma, originally scheduled for Thursday, October 1, will be moved to Friday, October 2 with entries to be taken on Saturday, September 26.

General admission at Belmont Park is available for $7 when purchased in advance and provides fans with access to grandstand seats on most days, all areas within the first floor of the grandstand and the backyard.
