Fitz Right gives Prat fifth win on the day in Listed Memories of Silver
Michael Dubb, William Lawrence, The Elkstone Group and Michael Kisber’s Fitz Right found her best stride in mid-stretch to sweep past her rivals and give jockey Flavien Prat his fifth win on Sunday’s card in the Listed $150,000 Memories of Silver, a one-mile inner turf test for sophomore fillies, on Closing Day of the spring meet at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Prat won the first three races on Sunday’s program, scoring with Sheer Will [No. 3, $4.12*], Mr. Papagiorgio [No. 3, $11.12], and completing the natural hat trick with Will Not Be Swayed [No. 5, $5.30*]. He then rallied Big Air [No. 11, $3.62*] to victory in Race 6 ahead of his win with Fitz Right for five-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown.
“It’s been a great day,” said Prat, who set a new single-day record for The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) circuit when posting seven wins from 10 mounts on November 2, 2025, at the Big A. “The horses are running well, so I’m very grateful.”
Fitz Right, a daughter of Charlatan, entered from a stalking optional claiming victory on January 18 at Tampa Bay Downs, which came two starts after breaking her maiden going one-mile in September at the Meadowlands. Those efforts surrounded a sixth-place finish in the local 1 1/16-mile Listed Chelsey Flower in November where she made her only other stakes attempt.
Fitz Right emerged from post 2-of-6 and settled in next-to-last as the Manny Franco-piloted Imperatrice kicked clear from Oscar Bound to mark the opening quarter-mile in 24.89 seconds over the yielding footing.
The field raced in an even line down the backstretch before Quiet Street was coaxed three-wide to the outside of Oscar Bound and Fitz Right crept closer into contention through the half-mile in 51.79. Quiet Street matched strides with the pacesetter late in the turn as Oscar Bound spun her wheels, but a stubborn Imperatrice would not yield as three-quarters elapsed in 1:16.55.
Meanwhile, Fitz Right was finding her best stride in the center of the course, and came flying with large strides to sweep past the embattled duo near the eighth pole and draw off to a comfortable 3 1/2-length victory in a final time of 1:40.50.
“She was traveling OK. The ground was a bit soft, so it was hard to tell the pace, but I was happy with where I was. From the eighth-pole to the wire, she really extended herself and made a good run,” said Prat, the Eclipse Award-winner as Outstanding Jockey in 2024-25. “When we turned for home, it took her a little bit to get going but as soon she got herself straightened up, she really leveled off.”
Imperatrice bravely held place honors by one length over Quiet Street with Piper’s Gift, Full of Tact and Oscar Bound completing the order of finish. Y’allreadyforthis, Ultimate Love, Smexy, and main track-only entrants Hot Gossip and Point of Reference were scratched.
Co-owner Michael Dubb said he was pleased to see the way Fitz Right has developed from 2-to-3.
“We really didn’t know what we had with this horse when we put the horse away last year,” said Dubb. “We were real happy with the Tampa race, and we thought we had a nice horse. This was the logical next spot for the horse, and I’ll leave it to Chad to find the next spot.”
The next logical spot on the NYRA calendar is the Grade 2, $300,000 Wonder Again presented by Shift4, a 1 1/16-mile test for sophomore fillies on June 5 during the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival at Saratoga Race Course.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Fitz Right was a $200,000 purchase at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and is out of the Grade 3-winning Henny Hughes mare I’m a Looker, making her a half-sister to stakes-placed Eliminate. She banked $82,500 in victory while returning $4.84 on a $2 win bet as the 7-5 mutuel favorite.
Franco, aboard Imperatrice for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher, said he got the trip he wanted in the Grade 3-placed filly's turf debut.
“That was my plan. There was no other speed in the race,” Franco said. “I told the assistant I was going to come out running and put her on the lead – that’s what we did, but we were second best.”
