Flavien Prat wins five races on Sunday at Aqueduct Racetrack
Eclipse Award-winning rider Flavien Prat earned five victories – including a sweep of the day’s two stakes races – on Sunday’s nine-race card at Aqueduct Racetrack, giving him 14 wins altogether this week at the Ozone Park oval.
Prat, who announced in September he would ride full-time in New York this winter, expressed his gratitude for all his recent successes.
“It’s been a very good week,” said Prat, who is represented by agent Brad Pegram. “I was riding good horses all week long and they responded properly. It’s been good so far. Hopefully the momentum stays as long as it can.”
Prat won with his first mount of the day when guiding the George Weaver-trained Salute to Service [No. 4, $6.16] to graduate in Race 2, a six-furlong state-bred maiden claimer as the first part of a natural hat trick.
He followed with another maiden claiming victory aboard New York Scrappy [No. 8, $9.26] for Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse in Race 3, and with the first of his two stakes wins on the card in Race 4 when piloting Oversubscribed [No. 5, $3.06*] to capture the $150,000 Forever Together for five-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown.
Prat landed in the winner’s circle again in Race 8, the Grade 3, $175,000 Pebbles, as Fast Market [No. 1, $5.08*] notched her first stakes win for trainer John Terranova in the Empire State’s final turf race of the year.
The day concluded with Prat claiming his fifth win on the card aboard Apalta [No. 6, $3.72*] for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher in the Race 9 finale, a nine-furlong maiden claimer.
Prat recently set a new single-day record for The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) circuit when posting seven wins from 10 mounts on November 2 at the Big A. He currently holds a considerable lead in the Aqueduct fall meet jockey standings with 31 wins as of the conclusion of Sunday’s card, 17 more than Manny Franco in second place.
Live racing resumes Friday at the Big A with a nine-race card. First post is 12:10 p.m. Eastern.
